There are several ways that I could describe the overall sound of Ted Leo and his rowdy band of Pharmacists, but most of them would come across as more than ridiculous to his core base of fans. Even those who are just familiar with him would probably bristle at a phrase like “the hyper-opinionated, pissed-off little sibling of John Darnielle and The Mountain Goats.” How else am I supposed to talk about the music of an aggressive, animated folk singer with strong, long-standing ties to classic East Coast punk rock with a sound that brings together The Replacements, Violent Femmes, Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg, and The Boss?
