At this juncture in contemporary music, it’s beyond easy to harass dance-rock bands for being a few years behind the curve. Not only has everyone moved on to newer, bigger, and (supposedly) hipper sounds, but those acts still churning out various forms of third-wave post-punk aren’t bringing anything new to the table. Sure, there might be a part of me that still wants to dig on these sounds (since we ALL did when Bloc Party and The Rapture first burst onto the scene six-plus years ago), but if you’re unwilling (or unable) to display any semblance of growth in your aesthetic, you’re simply inviting music fans and critics alike to dismiss you out of hand.
