As long-term readers of this site will notice, I have waxed rhapsodic about concept albums several times in the past. When they’re executed well, then there’s nothing I’d rather hear more than a beautiful conglomeration of finely tuned music and eloquent lyrics tied up with a coherent, unified theme. Yet, it can go awry all too quickly, resulting in a bloated project that only serves as fodder for cheap jokes and to perpetuate claims that concept albums are only for the big egos in progressive rock bands.
