If you were to poll a collection of contemporary indie music fans, the vast majority of them would have a fairly clear notion in their heads of what an album released by Saddle Creek will sound like without actually hearing it. Most of them, without even thinking, would probably tell you that the bands signed to that record label predominantly sound like Conor Oberst and/or Bright Eyes. To be sure, this is a gross over-generalization of a company that’s released excellent albums from The Faint and Cursive, as well attempting to recast its image with recent releases from bands as diverse as O+S, Rural Alberta Advantage, and UUVVWWZ (amongst others), but truth be told, people have a very definite idea of the sort of stuff put out by Saddle Creek.
