As a self-admitted nerd, I have no problem whatsoever confessing his love for science fiction of most any variety. I can plop down on my couch to watch reruns of Star Trek: The Next Generation at the drop of a hat, no matter the time of day, week, month, or year. People like me are the reason that the Sci Fi Channel exists (now curiously re-branded as SyFy): since the typical nerd is rather anti-social, it’s easy to build a channel upon the constant airing of reruns of various classic science fiction and fantasy programs. Yet, as any regular viewer of the Joel McHale version of The Soup can attest, SyFy has this strange proclivity for regularly making and broadcasting a stream of tacky, tasteless, and hackneyed made-for-TV movies that actually make a mockery of all that sci-fi aficionados hold near and dear to their hearts.
