My Houston-area music-loving readers should already be more than aware of the details I’m about to share, since the initial announcement was made a few weeks back. I’ve only hesitated in disclosing the nature of the Free Press Houston Summer Fest (put on – duh – by the fine people at Free Press Houston) until I was sure that the band line-up and event schedule had been solidified.
And the line-up is awesome!

On August 8th and 9th, 2009 (that’s a Saturday and Sunday) at Eleanor Tinsley/Buffalo Bayou Park (800 Allen Parkway at Sabine), Broken Social Scene, Of Montreal, and Explosions In The Sky lead a collection of exemplary national touring acts who will make their way to Space City for what should prove to be an uproarious two days of live music. Some of my favorite local acts playing this show include Buxton, Fat Tony, Wild Moccasins, and The Tontons, but there should be something here for a fairly wide swath manner of music fans about town (unless, say, you’re a dedicated fan of a genre like Sacred Harp or some delirious form of European Speed/Black Metal).
Suffice to say, the ever-increasing number festivals of this nature being held in this city serve as proof are plenty of people in Houston, TX who are tired of Austin, TX getting all of the credit for being a great music city. Thus, Houston really needs to step it up and get out to this event – you’ll thank me once you’re there.
