Moby – Wait For Me

I’ve discussed my affection for quality dance music on this site many times, despite my status as an overweight white male from southeast Texas. Not only did I grow up not ever hearing any traces of the genre in my house, like so many people of my relative generation, I came of musical age listening to all manner of grunge and hip-hop on ‘90s commercial radio. While there were instances in my first two years of college where my ears were bombarded by derivative house tunes, I didn’t come across anything approximating proper techno and dance music until Moby released Play in 1999. Upon its original release, the record was burdened with the task of proving to the world that techno and dance music could be commercially successful, but a decade later, it’s instead looked upon as a premier example of how lucrative it can be to license one’s music, especially if it’s of generally above-average quality and driven by insanely catchy beats and melodies.
