To close the loop from my post last week detailing the Stetson Rocks Contest, it seems that an Austin-based country singer-songwriter Jon Wolfe has won and he’s opening for Neal McCoy and the Wolf 12 Man Jam in December.

From the press release:
“[HOUSTON]- November 5, 2008 – Stetson Rocks, a competition aiming to support emerging country western talent across the state of Texas, announced today the winner of its contest: country singer and songwriter Jon Wolfe, of Austin.
As the Stetson Rocks winner, Wolfe will open for Neal McCoy next Friday, November 14, at Mo’s Place in Houston followed by an opening performance for the Wolf 12 Man Jam Sunday, December 7, at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth.
“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to a rising Texas country music star,” said Pam Fields, CEO of Stetson. “Jon’s talent and sense of style truly align with the Stetson brand and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this contest.”
Wolfe rose to the top 10 based on fan votes, via Ourstage.com. An expert panel of Texas music judges, including Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston editors and industry people, made the final selection by popular vote and launched Wolfe to the main stage.
“My music career started in Houston, so it means a lot to be able to perform there next Friday,” said Wolfe. “I’ve always liked Neal’s music, and I’ve been wanting to check out the 12 Man Jam. Opportunities like this are very hard to come by in the emerging music scene, and for this big chance to further spread my name and my music, I am truly grateful.”
In addition to helping a rising artist win a spot on the main stage, Stetson Rocks supports local emerging music through partnership with Texas Music Project, a non-profit dedicated to strengthening and restoring music education in public schools that has helped more than 700,000 Texas students to date. Fans can join the cause by purchasing a Stetson Rocks t-shirt.
“Stetson Rocks is about fighting to keep Texas music alive and growing. Through our contest and partnership with Texas Music Project, Stetson is working very hard toward meeting that goal,” said Fields.”
