Summer Camp 2008

Category: Life As I See It, Summer Camp 2008dryvetyme @ 13:02

Well folks - it’s time, time for me to once again head off into the depths of the Texas Hill Country to be the Merit Badge Coordinator at El Rancho Cima - Cockrell River Camp. Long-term readers of this blog will remember that I posted extensive photos, videos, and random ruminations of my time spent at this camp during Summer 2007. And while I do plan to post some of that material on a one-post-a-week-basis (How else will you all have any idea of how much FUN I’ll be having?), I plan to spend more time detoxing from my regular writing in order to read & plot out the background to the novel(s) I have floating about in my head.

So, be on the lookout for some thoughts about my time in the woods, what’s going on in the world of politics, some theological tidbits, and the occasional music review/interview. Enjoy your summer everyone!

I, for one, CANNOT wait for your perspective on Summer Camp. As a not-so-casual observer, definitely NOT a disinterested party, I found it almost humerous the difference between the accounts of the events from the three of my sons that were at camp last year. Stephen gave the “OMG - we’re all gonna die” version, Matthew gave the “There’s nothing thrown at me that I can’t handle” version, and you gave the “everything’s rosy in cima” version. It was great!!! One would have thought you all were at three different camps - but I have pics to prove you were together.

Have a great summer. I also know that once again, Matt is depending on you! You were such a stabilizing factor last year. He is going with such an extremely different perspective, too. He knows this is his last year, knows he wants it to be his best, but is so torn about wanting to be here and involved in the works he and Mickey Blagg have going. He is really on fire about working for God. Hope he takes that enthusiasm with him.

Love ya. Keep me posted, too.

Good to hear you are still supporting the Boy Scouts. I myself just finnished the year being a Tiger Cub Den Leader and this fall I’ll be the Cubmaster for Pack 125 in Kyle, TX. Since I have not seen you in eight years, I’ll catch you up.

Last time I saw you, you were reading a book at Astroworld. That very same day, Nancy and I found out we were going to have a baby. That baby is now seven years old and just finnished first grade and his first year of cub scouts.

In addition to Hunter, our oldest child, we have Aidan, 2 years old, and Hannah, 1 year old.

If you have a chance, send me an e-mail. I see El Rancho Cima is 32 miles from my house. I could come visit you at camp one day this summer, or if you have a day on the weekend you are free, you can come over for a meal and meet the family. If we plan this out I can try to get a hold of Sam and invite him over too.

    Have fun at camp!

Hey, Daniel, this is APN’s mama. Good to hear that you are supporting Boy Scouts. Your daddy sure gave you a good example to follow. Hope you are well. Say Hi to your parents.

Adam, I feel like such a terrible friend that I didn’t know the following things: 1) ou were the Merit Badge Coordinator at a Boy Scout camp last summer, 2) you are doing it again this summer! How long of a commitment is it? I hope you work in some fun in addition to your xcel spreadsheeting…
