Houston Music for the Weekend of 05/16-05/18/2008
Welcome again to what I’ve decided to entitle H-Town Rock, my regular weekly listing of what’s happening music-wise all weekend long in the mighty, mighty Space City.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way before we progress any further on this musical journey. Radiohead is playing at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX, on Saturday, May 17th, 2008. Most likely, the show will prove to be as amazing as their last two concert appearances in the area, but unless you purchased your ticket on opening weekend (or you found one at an outrageous price on Craigslist or eBay), you’re out of luck, as this show has been sold out for months. Nevertheless, there are probably many of you who did pony up the dough to see Thom & the Boys (I sure as hell did), so I hope to see you there!
For the rest of you poor unfortunate souls out there who won’t be making the trek up I-45 on Saturday evening, here’s a brief rundown of what else is happening all weekend. Is there more out there? Absolutely! If you know of more, then feel free to let us know what’s up.
Friday, May 16th, 2008:
1) Papermoons, Bright Men of Learning, Ninja Gun, and The Wild Moccasins at The Mink
2) Golden Brown and Sabra Laval at Notsuoh
3) The Reverend Horton Heat, Nashville Pussy, and Backyard Tire Fire at The Meridian (Houston Press Music Awards Nomination Party)
Saturday, May 17th, 2008:
1) She Wants Revenge, Be Your Own Pet, The Virgins, and Switches at The Meridian
2) Bruce Robison at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck
3) Radiohead Afterparty (Featuring: D.I.M., Ocelot, Bird Peterson, Ceeplus Bad Knives, and more) at Numbers
Sunday, May 18th, 2008:
1) Houston Roller Derby May Massacre at Verizon Wireless Theater (Yes, I know this isn’t a music-oriented event, but the Roller Derby Girls are awesome!)
2) Spain Colored Orange, Program, The Factory Party, and Ceeplus Bad Knives at Lucky’s Pub for the Houston Roller Derby Afterparty!
