The 2008 New Hampshire Primaries Results

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 12:33

As many people probably are already aware, Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) won the Republican and Democratic Primaries, respectively, in New Hampshire last evening. To me, these were somewhat expected results, as both candidates have been polling well and highly in the Granite State for weeks now; thus, their respective adherents claims that they are “comeback kids” is rather silly, in my opinion. Yes, neither were able to meet up to their expectations in Iowa: Clinton was 3rd, finishing at 29.25%, .5% behind Edwards, while McCain was a distant 4th. I understand the importance of momentum in an election, the need to keep one’s spirits high during these times when campaign employees and volunteers are doing all they can to push their desired candidate into office. But this primary win was not a comeback; they were strong performances by candidates who have been campaigning hard and the people of New Hampshire seemed to display their favor.

So, what’s up next? Michigan holds its primaries on January 15th, Nevada will have its caucuses on January 19th, the South Carolina Primary is January 26th, Florida’s Primary will be January 29th, and the Super Tuesday will be held on February 8th in 24 states. I don’t see any of the current candidates dropping out until the results of the Super Tuesday Primaries — if they haven’t left yet, the results of the individual primaries from January 15th through 29th probably won’t sway their decision to remain in the race.
