If you exert the effort to do a bit of digging, you’ll be pleased to discover that independent music exits just about everywhere. Regardless of the lack of overt exposure, there is music of substance out there beneath the veneer and glossy sheen that Clear Channel and the major labels produce. Whether you unearth a series of fun local bands in your city of residence or turn up a cross-section of enjoyable regional bands that seem to be perpetually on some sort of tour, the music is out there for the taking and listening. And a prime example of the ready availability of this music was on display on December 3, 2007, at The Mink, a laid-back spot in downtown Houston, TX,

Independent booking agency I Heart You Productions played host to an energetic show put on by Chase Pagan, Look Mexico, Papermoons, and Buxton. Continue reading “Buxton/Papermoons/Look Mexico/Chase PaganLive at The Mink”

Road Trip to San Diego! (A Bit of a Recap)

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 23:13

Well, Travis & I have returned from the road trip and we had an amazing time. Whether it’s the hard drive on Saturday from Austin to Albuquerque, the fantastic Sunday at the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest & the Grand Canyon, Monday at the San Diego Zoo, the walks on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday & Wednesday, or the even harder drives back home from San Diego to El Paso & El Paso to Houston (on Thursday & Friday respectively), this was definitely a trip to remember (on several levels). And as I sit down to compose this post, I don’t feel that there’s anything I can add that my pictures haven’t already revealed. However, I do want to reiterate that I greatly appreciate Travis’ generous gesture that allowed me to even partake of this journey. He has been a great friend to me over the past 2 years — he’s provided me a great place to live, great friendship in troubled times, and a great opportunity to build/grow/develop my career as a writer. Cheers to you my friend!

Sand, Silt, and Silica

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 02:39

Since I will be writing a larger recap-type post on Saturday or Sunday, I decided to post this poem that I wrote on Tuesday evening, while watching the sun set as I sat on the beach at Carslbad, CA. Enjoy.

2560.jpg

Sand, silt, and silica
Coat the ground
Run between my toes
And
Cover my clothes

Birds squawk
Pick at the surf
As waves crash
And
The sunbeams dash

Behind the horizon
Yellows, oranges, and reds
Fill the darkening sky
And
Temperatures go to low from high

Breezes whip about
I breathe easily
The cool winter air
And
I’m suddenly without a care

The rush of sounds
Approaching night
Beach all at ease
And
Rhythmic patterns bring peace

Emptied of people
Yet full of life
The coast sings aloud
And
The Creator is proud

Not because of vanity
But in the knowledge
That I now sit here
And
We both hold this place dear.
