Road Trip to San Diego!

It’s great to live with one’s friends. I know, I know — people have horror stories of friendships being ruined by one or several ridiculous domestic squabbles, but more often than not, friendships can grow into beautiful things when people who care about each other live in close proximity. The house where I live is one of these amazing places: 4 guys, all between the ages of 23-28, share a 4-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 2000 square foot house in NW Houston, TX. We hang out, watch sports, drink, play pool, watch movies, and generally have a great time. We also wrestle with each other, wrestle with our consciences, and wrestle with our theologies. I’ve been there 2 years: I’ve known my friend/roommate/landlord/boss Travis for 3.5 years, Shane for 2 years, and Danny for 1.5 years. And yet, it seems as if I’ve known them for much longer than that. As I said, it’s great to live with one’s friends.

So, a month ago, when Travis brought up the proposition that the 4 of us should take a week-long road trip to San Diego and back, we all jumped at the opportunity. Travis offered to drop our rent for the month so that we’d all have the financial ability to make the journey. However, as we approached the departure date for our trip, Shane dropped out because he was out of vacation days & Danny declined because he wouldn’t be able to miss two weekends of waiting tables during the high-traffic, high-money shopping season. Nevertheless, Travis and I persevered and will be leaving on our journey at approximately 6pm on Friday, December 7th.

We plan to take I-40 to San Diego with pit stops occurring at The Grand Canyon and whatever state/national park we drive past along the way. We’ll spend 3 days in San Diego, hiking, sight-seeing, and hanging out with one of Travis’ good friends. We’ll then take I-10 back with potential stops in Phoenix, Alamogordo, & Roswell (because I’m a sci-fi/history nerd like that), with our anticipated return being Saturday, December 15th. I do plan to take extensive pictures and will do what I can to upload & post them at regular intervals so that I can share the trip with my “readers” (since San Diego is a rather wired city). I’m quite excited to take this trip as I haven’t had a proper vacation in years and I’ve never been to the West Coast. So, I bid you all a fond farewell for the next few days. Behave yourselves while I’m gone!

Peace.
