Cassy’s Biography (Attempt #2)

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 10:51

Cassandra (Cassy) MacLeod:

With an intense energy that’s coupled with a razor-sharp wit, this firebrand makes herself known wherever she might be. With a blazing temper that’s matched only by the color of her hair, this 16-year-old loudmouth has spent her entire life telling people just what she thought about them. Born to workaholic yuppies who, after divorcing when she was barely 2 years old, gave her anything and everything except themselves, Cassy was truly raised by afternoon and primetime television programs. She is truly a textbook, latchkey kid – every child psychologist’s dream client. Thank God she had her Granny and Pop – her Dad’s parents.

Cassy’s father (Donald) is a MBA-holding, Senior Vice-President for an auto parts company who had recently relocated to Northern California to be closer to his company’s home offices. His ex-wife, Cassy’s mother (Rachael), is an orthopedic surgeon who’s just moved back to her hometown of Boston, MA after 15 years of living in Greenville, NC. Donald and Rachael met while attending Duke University together back in the early-‘80s: he was Greenville born-and-bred who set off to college to study general business while working nights at the same auto parts store he worked at in High School and she came from Old Boston Money down to the South so she could study Biology and rebel against her parents’ dreams, plans, and wishes. He was her proletarian grease monkey; she was his gorgeous ticket out of lower-middle-class complacency. Continue reading “Cassy’s Biography (Attempt #2)”

File under: “Go Ahead & Crush My Dreams”

Moz talks about touring, a reunion of The Smiths, and the lack thereof to NME.

Pitchfork’s snarky commentary on the same story (oh, how I love their sense of humor)

This makes me so very sad. Granted, such a reunion has been hotly debated and so very dubious for the past two decades, but to hear my beloved Morrissey effectively close the door on all future debate of such issues simply gives me heartache. And on top of killing any opportunity for a reunion of The Smiths, he’s talking about ceasing his own touring for the “foreseeable future” — THAT hurts to hear.

Why Moz?!?!? WHY?!?!? What have we, your loyal fans, done to earn your disfavor? Please, please, please let us get what we want….

Becky’s Biography (Attempt #2)

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 13:23

Rebecca (Becky) Jameson:

A fun-loving 15-year-old, Becky has spent most of her life traveling with her family, seeing the world, living in different countries, and generally going wherever her parents’ missionary work might send them. Born in Perth, Australia, her family’s travels have taken them to Papau New Guinea, Indonesia, and other islands in the Indian Ocean & Western Pacific Rim area. Furthermore, Becky is also the oldest of 5 kids, meaning that she’s also invested lots of time into having to take care of her younger siblings while Mom (Caroline) & Dad (Thomas) spend time investing themselves into the lives of the villagers in whatever country they might be stationed. She’s seen and directly experienced what it’s like to not have much in this world and that makes her alternately hyper-compassionate and hyper-frustrated at what she observes around her. But you can never tell that there’s a war inside of her as her shining blue eyes, flowing dark hair, and perpetual smile always find a way to set her parents, siblings, and everyone else around her at ease.

But after years on the mission field, the family has recently moved to America with two purposes in mind – a possible singing career for Becky & a job at a on-the-grow church for Dad. Continue reading “Becky’s Biography (Attempt #2)”

The Return of The Adventures of Becky & Friends

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 18:18

Here’s this — before I left to work at summer camp during June & July, I determined within myself that I would get some substantial writing done on my idea for a young adults book series. I wanted to have the 5 biographies for the 5 main characters and the first 5 chapters of the first book written by the end of August. I even went as far as to declare these very specific intentions/plans/goals to my closest friends so that they would keep me accountable and on-task over the summer. I wanted to make some solid progress into this project because I knew that this series was a great idea and was well within my capacity as a writer.

Nevertheless, the last thing that I expected was for the average work day at camp to be 13-14 hours in length and so resource- and energy-consuming. Was it a great experience? Yes. Would I do it again? I sure would. Did I usually crash most evenings at 10pm because of all the work done during the day? Most assuredly, meaning that I didn’t get any writing done over the summer, outside of my live-blogging of the events of camp and the occasional review. I was frustrated for the first 2 or 3 weeks at not having time to write, but I resigned myself to the inevitability of not having enough time or energy at the end of the day. It was an unfortunate turn of events, but I didn’t realize that it would take so long after my return to get back into the swing of things with my writing.

Well, lo & behold, I have been struck with an intense desire to sit back down to the writing desk & start cranking out some material. So, in the next two days, I’ll be posting my freshly revised biographies of the first two biographies I crafted back in the Spring. After this, I will begin diligently working on the three remaining biographies, with my plan being to complete them by the end of August. As usual, ideas/comments/considerations are always appreciated. Thanks for reading everyone!
