The Return of The Adventures of Becky & Friends

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 18:18

Here’s this — before I left to work at summer camp during June & July, I determined within myself that I would get some substantial writing done on my idea for a young adults book series. I wanted to have the 5 biographies for the 5 main characters and the first 5 chapters of the first book written by the end of August. I even went as far as to declare these very specific intentions/plans/goals to my closest friends so that they would keep me accountable and on-task over the summer. I wanted to make some solid progress into this project because I knew that this series was a great idea and was well within my capacity as a writer.

Nevertheless, the last thing that I expected was for the average work day at camp to be 13-14 hours in length and so resource- and energy-consuming. Was it a great experience? Yes. Would I do it again? I sure would. Did I usually crash most evenings at 10pm because of all the work done during the day? Most assuredly, meaning that I didn’t get any writing done over the summer, outside of my live-blogging of the events of camp and the occasional review. I was frustrated for the first 2 or 3 weeks at not having time to write, but I resigned myself to the inevitability of not having enough time or energy at the end of the day. It was an unfortunate turn of events, but I didn’t realize that it would take so long after my return to get back into the swing of things with my writing.

Well, lo & behold, I have been struck with an intense desire to sit back down to the writing desk & start cranking out some material. So, in the next two days, I’ll be posting my freshly revised biographies of the first two biographies I crafted back in the Spring. After this, I will begin diligently working on the three remaining biographies, with my plan being to complete them by the end of August. As usual, ideas/comments/considerations are always appreciated. Thanks for reading everyone!
