Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?!?

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 15:47

FURTHER UPDATE!!Further proof that Tim Tebow is THE MAN!!

UPDATE!!ESPN Page 2′s Updated Rules of College Football Fandom — According to these rules, I must either root for Southwestern University (a D-III, non-scholarship school with no football team to speak of where I spent 2 of the best years of my life) and/or Sam Houston State University (the D-II school from which I graduated in 2001). Thus, because I’m allowed to root for a D-I school (and because I gratuitously posted 3 pictures of Tim Tebow), I’m selecting the Florida Gators as my team of choice. Furthermore, I will openly root for any team battling against any other teams in the SEC and against ANY teams in the Pac-10. Moreover, because of my affinity for small-market, small-ball-playing MLB teams, I reserve the right to root for any smaller D-I program (i.e. Boise State, Marshall, etc) that I damn well feel like. Just because I like one big program school doesn’t mean that I like them all — USC, OSU, OU, ND, UCLA and other such schools can kiss my ass.

It’s time folks — FOOTBALL SEASON!! That’s right, with the NCAA Football Season coming into full swing on Saturday, September 1st, 2007 and the NFL Football Season starting in earnest on Sunday, September 9th, 2007, wives and girlfriends across America are preparing to lose their significant others for the following 4-5 months. Granted, I’m lucky in this situation — I don’t have a wife or girlfriend and I live in a house with 3 other sports-obsessed friends. As has been the case for the prior two years, our house will be filled with the lush sounds of Fall Football, complete with the roar of glorious victory and the agonizing screams of defeat. To top it all off, the four of us represent half of an 8-team fantasy football league, so we’ll be talking nonstop trash for the next four months. There’s nothing guys like better than proving to their friends that they’re a better faux coach/general manager than all their friends — if you can’t play the sport, at least you can know ALL about it!! Jake’s Biography (Draft #1)

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 09:42

Jacob (Jake) Brahms:

Oh Jacob – the quintessential middle child. Pinioned between two older brothers and two younger twin sisters, there are times when it seems that the brown-haired and brown-eyed Jake is bereft of a personality, but not because he hasn’t tried. However, any time your two older brothers left their mark at your High School – one (Abraham, aka Abe) as a star athlete, the other (Isaac, aka Ike) as debate team captain and Student Body President – and your younger sisters (Sarah & Rachel) have been doted upon for their entire existence, you’re bound to have a severe identity crisis. It’s not that he’s ignored at home; far from it actually. The problem is that Jake’s older brothers aren’t at home anymore, but their presence lingers perpetually, as one is a junior cornerback at Cal and the other is a freshman government major at Stanford. Those are large shoes that Jake’s supposed to be filling, and according to his parents & teachers, he’s failing miserably.

So, who’s Jake? What’s Jake all about? How does Jake stand out? Well, for starters, he’s the one-man labor force at the Brahms household. Continue reading “Jake’s Biography (Draft #1)”

Shooter, Shot, & Target

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 10:28

Frightening in its violence,
The shot rang out,
Clear & strong,
Straight & true.
Piercing the intended target,
With keen precision,
The end result achieved
With the desired consequences.
Where as the entry point
Was exact with no error,
The exit wound was rather imprecise.
The end hurt more than the beginning;
The departure much messier than the entrance.
The shooter stares down the target,
Content with his shot.

Interview with Tim Kasher of The Good Life

Category: Music In My Earsdryvetyme @ 17:50

The Good Life
Music, Movies, & Stage Plays Oh My!

Artisans are a strange breed of people. Whether a graphic designer, singer, songwriter, painter, musician, sculptor, author, or poet, those folks who use the right side of their brains to ply their trade have a rather distinct manner of viewing the world around them. There’s no on/off switch to flick when they want to stop interpreting the world through certain quite colorful lenses. Thus, it can be rather difficult to contain one’s capacity for artistic expression (and the related addictive need to express) when the mood strikes and does so forcefully. So, needless to say, when Tim Kasher of Cursive and The Good Life feels the need to create, he lets loose with both a screenplay and new record (originally intended to be the soundtrack for the screenplay). I recently had a chance to speak with Tim about Help Wanted Nights, the 4th record for The Good Life, the screenplay it was supposed to support, and all things musical.

APN: Hey there Tim. Thanks for agreeing to the interview.

Tim Kasher (TK): You’re welcome. I’m excited to talk about the new record. Continue reading “Interview with Tim Kasher of The Good Life”
