Week 7, Day 7

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 10:21

Well, it’s over. I leave tomorrow at Noon for home, after 8 weeks here at Cockrell River Camp 2007. After all of the troops leave today, the staff will be dispatched around camp to disassemble as much of camp as possible, as expeditiously as possible so that we can enjoy our last evening together. Tonight, we will hold our End-of-Summer Staff Banquet & Staff Campfire where we’ll reflect back upon all that’s happened, complete with pictures, speeches, jokes, skits, & songs. And once all that’s done, we’ll crash for the evening before waking up to leave in the morning. Thus, with the summer complete, we’ll return to our respective lives, jobs, school, troops, posts, crews, friends, and families with the knowledge that we’ve made some life-long friends here at Cockrell River Camp 2007. So, as I conclude my camp blogging, please enjoy some great pictures after the break and thanks for reading along all summer!

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I have honestly and truthfully (Boy Scout’s Honor) enjoyed your camp blogging – river ‘riting – all summer long. All of us “at home family people” have gotten a kick from the pictures, enjoyed the point of view, and this mama has probably only truly “made it” by reading your weeklyish entries.

Thanks for the memories. I have downloaded all of the pictures from the blog and will have fun scrapbooking them. Some of them are alsmost worthy of blackmail some day, I know!

I know you will be more than happy to get home. Tell Deanna HAPPY BIRTHDAY from all of us (I’ll call her, too — and I went “girl shopping” and got her something. I don’t get to shop for girls very often, you know!)Hope to see you very soon, too. Maybe we can meet in the middle for dinner, or ya’ll can come by or something. I know you first just want to get home and get settled back into a routine of some sorts.

    Later—

Hey Kathleen (aka: Nate’s other mom),

When are you going to start a blog?

Hey Nathan, Next time I will make sure I add you as a surrogate son to my list… Love ya lots, I really do.

Hey and by the way, I have read your “blog” several times, and while I don’t have concrete evidence you’re talking about Adam when you wrote about affecting / effecting someone’s life, I kinda guess it could have at least “been about” him. And I want you to know for IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME FOR YOU TO KNOW that NEVER in this mom’s heart have I ever had any negative thoughts about your relationship / friendship with Adam, or any of my guys. You’re such a blessing, not anything else. I never ever felt your friendhip was such a “bad influence” that would “cause” him to seek another path.

Is the blog question a non-tacky way to say I talk so much I would at least have a place to hear myself…

I did try several places this summer — some mother-y type places and some scrapbook-y type places — to at least blog with others, but I surely didn’t even begin to find the right venue. I was kinda looking for some like-minded people, but just haven’t had them.

I have thought that a blog might be the way for me to work on my book. but then again, who knows…

  5. Nate says:
Yes ma’am, it was about Adam. I knew that there were some who believed that I had influenced his decision. And, I’ll admit, I was worried about how you felt about everything — but it wasn’t because of anything I heard but because I cared more about what you thought than the others. After all, you are my second mother.

*grin* It was a non-tacky way to say that I would be very interested in what you would say in a bit more depth. Granted, you may talk a bit much but so do I.

I might suggest that you should start a blog, have it separated into categories (mother-y, scrapbook-y, and life-y for example), and write away. The way you build community is by finding others who write on similar topics and start commenting on their blogs using a link to your own. I can push others writing a blog — I just have a hard time consistently writing in mine though.
