Opposites Attract (Part One)

Category: Work In Progressdryvetyme @ 7:43 pm

Swirling around –
Murky hues,
Bright flashes,
And
Every color in between.

Sprawled on the ground –
Dark fluids,
Broken masses,
And
Every body part is so unclean.

I gotta get up.
I need to get up.
But
I
Just
Can’t.

Mmmm…. Girls & Guitars….

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 8:59 pm

OK folks — it’s time for me to be a fawning indie rock kid (and/or red-blooded male who’s turned on by female musicians), so you are free to skip this post if you’d like.

So, without further ado, on with the show!

Why didn’t I run (when I could)?

Category: Work In Progressdryvetyme @ 9:26 am

My eyes close.
Just in time to hear the action of the gun audibly click.
Deep in the bowels of that dark alley.

The gunpowder is ignited.
And the thrust of the explosion forces the bullet from the gun barrel.
Careening into the space between myself and the gun.
Deep into the bone & flesh of my right knee.

And, oh the pain filled up my brain.
And I knew that I could still make it out.
Get away, all on my own.

My eyes open.
Springing open wide at the rush of pain to the head.
As my hands instinctively stretch out.
Reaching for a way to prop up my falling frame.
Resting my body on the wall.
Hoping against hope that my left leg won’t fail.

And, oh the pain filled up my brain.
And I knew that I could still make it out.
Get away, all on my own.

But just before.
Right as I turned to stagger off.
A click.
A bang.
A fleshy thud.

My eyes close.
Just as my body falls.
And it falls hard upon that unforgiving concrete.
The pain in my legs soon overwhelms the pain in my head.
And I wish I could shut it out.
I wish it would all go far, far away.

In case of danger (don’t most folks flee?)

Category: Work In Progressdryvetyme @ 9:51 pm

There.
There I stood.
Ready for the blow.
Ready for the shot.
The one that would take my life away from me.

But for some strange reason.
I didn’t even know how I had gotten myself here.
And more than that.
I didn’t even know where here was.

The walls.
The stones.
The buildings.
The noises.
The smells.
And especially this person standing in front of me.
I had no idea who any of them were or where they had come from.
Nothing was even remotely familiar.

And yet.
Even though.
I had no clue what was going on.
Or how I had arrived at this very place.
Nevertheless.
Somehow.
I knew that it had been my feet.
I knew that it had been my steps.
They are what had brought me to this dark, dank alley.

Adrenaline coursed violently through my veins.
It was already running when I got here.
So it was its running that brought me here.
But there was no running anymore.
The pulsing of my heart ebbed.
The energy the propelled the mystery flight was no longer present.

There.
There I stood.
Ready for the blow.
Ready for the shot.
The one that would take my life away from me.

And I wondered why I was so passive, accepting, and resigned to my fate.

VOTE!

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 10:45 am

Hey there lazy Americans!

It’s that day! You know, the day where only a good third of the available electorate gets out to vote. Yes, it’s the Mid-Term Elections! That’s right — in the vaunted land that willingly spreads democracy at the barrel of a gun around the world, where we barely have 50% of the available electorate voting in our Presidential elections, we wonderfully ugly Americans usually send less than 40% (often less that 35%) of our electorate to vote in the mid-term elections.

“What does all of that mean?” you might ask. Well, since High School Civics is a joke, you may have forgotten that every TWO years, we get to vote on who will represent our district in the House of Representatives. So, every TWO years, the tables get turned over and we a chance to start again — that IS what having a representative democracy is all about. Furthermore, since their terms are 6 years long, every TWO years, we get to vote on one-third of our Senators, allowing us a chance to send NEW people to the US Senate (not to mention the vote for our respective state’s House & Senate).

Thus, I just want to encourage EVERYONE (and yes, that means you sitting there in your cubicle, surfing the net and trying to look busy while not actually doing any actual work) to go vote. Please vote. I implore you to get off your collective asses and make your voices heard. It’s so necessary in this day & age of an ill-informed populace; America really needs people to get educated and participate in the democratic process. And besides — if you don’t vote, you can’t complain (unless you’re an educated & informed anarchist).

Peace. Continue reading “VOTE!”
