A Paean to Confusion

It cannot be.
It cannot be believed.
The hand that shot me down
Cannot be the one that then heals me.

It must not be.
It must not be true.
If that shooting hand is a helping hand,
Then, OH, what shall I do?

    I remember one of the first “shepherd” stories I heard, and it startled me. The story goes that when the shepherd, after having to go and find the little straying lamb TIME after TIME after TIME, broke the lamb’s legs. Then the shelpherd had to carry the little lamb until the break healed. Lamb to shepherd, but also shepherd to lamb…The bonding between them was never able to be severed.
