There are great many ways to poorly compose and disseminate one’s thoughts, and, aside from the constant streams of hateful vitriol spewing from AM radio across this nation that is America, few mediums are as rife with the abuse of language as that of “The Review.” The reviewing world is full of descriptive language; sadly, most of the phraseology that is commonly used has tragically fallen into the pantheon of cliché. Now, there’s nothing truly wrong with a good cliché; however, the problem is that the various ways & means of talking about a certain book, album, movie, or other form of media have come to be overly, cheaply, and loosely used. Some are used to bombastically inflate & extol the virtues of whatever is being examined, while others are employed to criticize with a great too much ease. Sloppy writing kills language and we’re all to blame – Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, my site, and even the vaunted Pitchfork.

Nevertheless, there come the times when hyperbole and unbridled enthusiasm are appropriate reactions and, with the US release of Return To Cookie Mountain from TV On The Radio, that time has now arrived. Continue reading “TV On The Radio — Return To Cookie Mountain”
