Why do I hit myself as hard as I can?

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 6:18 pm

Fleshy digits
soar towards my visage,
catapulting celestial objects
into orbit around my head space.

Chances, oh,
continually find my heart,
opportunities for redemption
that I seem to flee so constantly.

Shadow-fearing,
future-dreading, & past-haunting
my present seems so shrouded
by the heavy curtains I’ve brought ’round.

Hampered Continue reading “Why do I hit myself as hard as I can?”

I’m not a fan of anniversaries…

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 5:34 pm

Yes, you are reading this post on the 5th Anniversary of the Al-Qaeda Bombing of the Twin Towers in New York City, NY (like all of those capital letters?). So, before I begin, I want to openly declare my admiration for all of the rescue workers who risked their lives doing their jobs on September 11th, 2001, in Lower Manhattan, along with anyone else (whether private citizen or corporation) who donated time, energy or resources to assist those brave men & women on that day (and subsequent days/weeks/months). To all of those who died that day, placing their own well-beings in danger to bring others to safety — I hope that your efforts are never forgotten and that your families have found (or are still in the process of finding) peace, hope, & strength in the past 5 years.

My negative feelings towards anniversaries mostly deal with the fact that I think that most people are lazy with their memories and how they actually process the details of the event being remembered on an anniversary.

Let me explain….

Underoath — Define the Great Line

Underoath
Define the Great Line
Solid State/Tooth & Nail; 2006
Rating: 7.8

Here’s this – I know that I shouldn’t even be listening to this group, since I’m about 7 to 10 years too old and about 75 pounds over the necessary weight required to wear the appropriate uniform that most (if not all) hardcore kids have been wearing for the past couple of years. (It’s been a decade since I could fit into 32-waist jeans and a size Medium t-shirt.) Coupled with that sad admission is the one that, whenever I even think about going to any kind of local rock show in my area (whether in Houston itself or in the general north of the city), I have to remind myself how old & out-of-place I’ll look amongst all the kids in the crowd. Stuck, Blind, & Piss-Poor

Category: Uncategorizeddryvetyme @ 8:05 pm

Complacency –
such a convenient place to rest,
such an easy place to hide,
yet it’s the very safety I should resist.

Because…

I sit
on my hands
and
I wait
on the trends
before I take a step outside the door.

To stop & see
before moving is to lack all trust
in anyone or anything outside of
that which I can truly touch.

Because….
